15 years working for peace
The pacifists are the realists
This is one of the ideas that uphold the approach of the Official Master and Doctorate in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies in the Universitat Jaume I (UJI) of Castellón (Spain) within the framework of the UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace. The curriculum promotes specific knowledge in the areas of theories of peace, conflict, cooperation for development, humanitarian aid, peace culture, democracy, human rights, peaceful communication, gender and postcolonial studies. It also highlights tools for the prevention and peaceful transformation of conflicts.
The UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace was created by an agreement among UNESCO, Caja Castellón-Bancaja Foundation and the Universat Jaume I (UJI) of Castellón in October 1999 to promote a constant building and spreading of cultures for making peace(s). This Chair carries out its main activities in the Postgraduate Center of the (UJI) and Bancaja’s International Center for Peace and Development (CIBPD), created by the above Foundation in 1996 at its UJI campus’s headquarter. The CIPD was honoured in 1999 with the UNESCO’s Mahatma Gandhi Gold Medal.
After 15 years of experience, over 600 students trained in various parts of the world, with renowned local national and international prestige. The Master's Degree in Peace, Conflict and Development International Studies was reconverted in 2006 into an Official Master. Our Doctorate in Peace, Conflict and Development International Studies has obtained the Quality Label recognition from the 2008-2009 (Resolution of October 20 2008 from the Secretary of State of Universities). This mention is a national and international recognition of our doctorate and our aim is to keep the quality standards that always have characterized us.
There is not only one way to understand peace, but rather there are as many ways of making peace(s) as there are different people and cultures.
